The Relay For Life Youth Program has been an integral part of the Canadian Cancer Society’s youth engagement strategy since 2002. Relay For Life is a celebration of cancer survival, a tribute to loved ones who have fought it, and an event full of fun, friendship and fundraising to fight back against cancer.
Since 2002, 500+ schools across Canada have organized over 1400 Relay For Life events, raising over $30,000,000 that goes to help fund cancer research and support local programs and services. Each event is unique to the student committees that run it, but all run on the common grounds of school unity, enthusiasm and sticking it to cancer.
When it comes to school activities, Relay For Life is one of the best ways for students to gain leadership skills through organizing a fundraising event that engages their whole school.
Workshop Description for “Why You CAN Change the World”
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” - Margaret Mead
In this workshop, we will explore the misconceptions about why youth cannot make a difference in the world. Dismissing these misconceptions we will set out to change the world bit by bit with the support and resources that we have around us. Participants will experience how events like Relay for Life are having an impact on the battle against cancer.
