After an 8 year career making children’s cartoons, and teaching digital animation at Centennial College, Amy began to get an inkling that this was not the industry she was going to grow old in. Almost immediately after that thought entered her awareness, she accidentally (if there is such a thing) found herself on a path that would merge all of her skills and passions together.
She is now the co-founder and visionary of “The Groove EDGEucation”, an organization that uses dance, movement and music as a tool to educate and motivate youth and teachers by engaging the BODY, BRAIN and BEING. We call this tool “The GROOVE”. She facilitates GROOVE workshops in schools across the country as well as creates holistic and kinesthetic resource material that allow teachers to infuse their approach into different areas of school curriculum. On her journey to entrepreneurship, she discovered something about herself. Having not gone to university, she realized it was her “soft skills” that have been the key to her successes, and ultimately a more fulfilling life. Her ability to be a positive, independent, and creative thinker, to believe in herself, take risks, and interact well with others, have been the driving forces behind her life’s achievements. When she began facilitating workshops for students of all different ages and demographics across the country, she noticed something that fascinated her. Turns out we are all born with these abilities, though most of us seem to lose them along the way to young adulthood. She was amazed to see how The GROOVE experience allowed students to re-discover and practice these valuable skills, then apply them in everyday life. She had found her calling! Giving young people the opportunity to realize the amazing abilities they already have within has become one of her favourite hats she wears with The Groove EDGEucation.
She certainly did enjoyed her years in animation, however she is so grateful to have stumbled upon and stuck with her current path so she can share it with you today. Though she still makes sure she catch the latest animated movie when she can…cartoons are her favourite!! Hope to see you at the next GROOVE Dance Party!
Workshop Description for “The GROOVE: What Do Leadership and A Dance Party Have In Common?”
The ability to be a positive, “outside the box” thinker, to take risks, and interact well with others are some of the wonderful qualities the most successful leaders possess. Turns out, we all have these abilities within us though often our “inner critique” gets in our way of utilizing them.
In this interactive workshop you will discover what a simple dance party can teach us about these skills, where they go as we transition into young adulthood and how we can use them to build a more positive existence and healthier community. We won’t just talk about it, we’ll actually put it all into practice with a little GROOVE dance party of our own. No experience necessary cause on this dance floor it is impossible to get anything wrong.
All you need is an open mind and willingness to try. Imagine what the world would be like if we all had the courage to dance like no one is watching? Let’s find our inner GROOVE!
