Once again OSLC is just around the corner….in 3 days to be exact. In 3 days I shall be running my 5th OSLC! Where has this time gone? I feel like just yesterday I was running around camp hosting leadership retreats and now I am running the largest leadership conference in Canada for a 5th time! That still blows my mind some days!

How can it be November already? I feel like I was just lying outside on the back deck soaking up the rays…..Oh wait….I was….in October!

But really, this time of year always just rushes upon me. The time speeds up and then in a blink of an eye it’s over and I am working on the next years conference.

This one is important.

Yesterday at YLCC we held a celebration of life for a 17 year old camper. A young girl that took her own life. She was a beautiful, fun, talented teenager that could not find peace. It was one of the saddest things I have ever been part of. I was asked to speak on behalf of YLCC. She had said that summer camp was the only... Read More

What’s on your mind?

It was September 11th, 2001. I was sleeping comfortably in my bed at the Pepper Mill Inn in Reno, Nevada. The phone was ringing. 6 am. It was my dear friend Andrew Thibodeau calling to ask if I had heard the news? Was I watching the TV? Was I ok? In a groggy state, in a sleepy voice, confused I questioned him, “What are you talking about?” “... Read More

It’s over, the end of what seems like a brief moment in history for about 10,000 students. It actually may be a bit more than ten thousand. Regardless of the number it’s over. It was a ride that was both very good and at times incredibly bad. There were moments that laughter, joy and learning were experienced in spades. Equally there were moments that everything was questioned and much was ... Read More

I sit in the office in Orillia, on a very rare occasion where I have the entire place to myself. Normally there is chit chat of my fellow office collegues, the pitter patter of pug paws and the general busy-ness of it all. Today with Alan Doyle’s voice keeping me company in the background, I take a moment to think back at this entire year…..How far we have grown in a year!!!

OSLC is in 5 days!!!!!!! 5 days until the largest and longest... Read More

What’s on your mind?

Not sure how to summarize what I experienced last night, August 20th, 2016. There was so much to absorb, so many moments that made it one of the best events I have ever been part of. It was uniquely Canadian. Something special.

There was the spirit of kindness in the building. While massed together at the merchandise table, the crowd split to let a man... Read More

I am a leadership development guy. I work with tens of thousands of young people every year. I try and help them understand that they have the ability to make their life and the world that they live in better. I try and teach understanding, tolerance, compassion and of course the idea of dreaming BIG. This generation more than ever needs to believe the world can and will heal and become a more humane place.

I will be 100% transparent, I am not American... Read More

David Bowie was the founder of YLCC

Sadly today, January 11th, 2016, I woke up to read that the great David Bowie had passed. Without any warning. No one really knew he had been fighting cancer for 18 months (gosh I hate that disease). He passed quietly with family at his side they said.

There’s no question that Ziggy was an icon in the music industry and... Read More
